International Students

International Students are those who need a student's visa to study in Canada.

This Institute receives a large number of applications each year from well-qualified international students for an extremely limited number of positions. Only students in computer science who are in the top 5% of their graduating class and fulfilling all the admission requirements should consider applying. In addition, applicants to the Ph.D. program who have technical papers published in international journals or presented at international conferences, have a much better chance for admission than those applicants who do not have such evidence to indicate the quality of their Master's theses.

An academic year starts in September with the Fall semester and students generally first register in the Fall semester. Applicants should note that, depending upon their country of application, it can take up to 6 months or more to obtain a student's visa to study in Canada which will not be issued without an official letter of acceptance from the university of the supervisor and evidence of adequate financial support. For registration in September, an application file should be complete by March 1st, whereas for registration in January the deadline is July 1st (at uOttawa) and October 1st (at Carleton). Apply now!

Visa students studying in Ontario are charged tuition fees whose details are described on The University of Ottawa and Carleton University tuition fee pages. We estimate that a Visa student will need a minimum of $37,000 (Canadian funds) per annum to cover tuition and living expenses. Visa students may work in Canada only as teaching and research assistants in the universities where they are enrolled.
